Amazon has partnered with TikTok and Pinterest to allow users to buy products directly through the social media apps. At the moment, this trial is limited to users in the United States.

In-app shopping

US users of TikTok and Pinterest can link their profiles to their Amazon accounts to make purchases and checkout directly, without leaving the social media app. The platform hopes this will optimise and facilitate the buying experience, Bloomberg reports. Selling via social media is a growing business, at least in some regions.

TikTok users get to see Amazon’s product recommendations in their “for you” feed, while they can also receive pricing information, Prime availability and delivery time estimates. For TikTok, which is strongly committed to growth in the US, this complements its own livestream shopping offerings.

Pinterest is also adding similar capabilities to its partnership with Amazon. Previously, Amazon had already enabled in-app shopping in Facebook, Instagram and SnapChat.
