American specialty beer launches in Belgium

Brewery Duvel Moortgat has started selling Boulevard Brewing Company's Tank 7, an American specialty beer, in some 100 Belgian cafes. For the time being, it is just a small-scale pilot program.

Also at Carrefour

These cafes are known for their wide selections of beers and that is exactly why they were chosen to participate in this pilot program. It is also available in supermarkets, particularly in Carrefour. American Single Wide IPA, also part of Boulevard's portfolio, will soon join Tank 7. Boulevard Brewing Company, founded in 1989 and with a 140 million euro turnover, joined Duvel Moortgat's ranks in 2013.

Strong specialty beers have grown in popularity in the United States over the past few years: this particular market grows 15 % on a yearly basis. Most of those beers are imported from Europe, but an increasing number of local breweries comes up with their own specialty beer.
