Portuguese web shop goodafter.com sells food items that are approaching or have surpassed their best-used-before date, with discounts up to 70 %.
The online supermarket is part of a food waste awareness campaign, meant to tell consumers the difference between an expiration date and a use-before date. A use-before date is simply an advisory date for items that do not perish easily and that can sometimes be safely consumed many years later. Goodafter.com therefore fulfills three goals: avoid food waste, make people aware of the meaning of expiration dates and give families a chance to save money on groceries.
Goodafter.com sells food items like canned goods, candy, pasta or liquids, but also non-food items with a use-before date, like shampoo or cleaning products. Everything gets delivered within 24h in Portugal and Spain.
Manufacturers, including several well-known brands, supply the supermarket - which has received a license from the Portuguese food safety authority. The founders have stated they want to open physical stores in the future as well.
