Discounter Lidl has launched the digital Lidl Plus loyalty card in the Netherlands, a ‘discount’ app that allows customers to receive discounts and offers. The loyalty programme has already been introduced in five other European countries.

Virtual bonus card

Those who sign up for the savings programme will be able to access a virtual bonus card on their smartphone. The card has to be scanned at the checkout, where any discount vouchers will automatically be deducted. If specific spending thresholds are exceeded, the customer will also receive virtual vouchers for their next visit to the store. Lidl also promises weekly exclusive offers for Lidl Plus users.

The app also stores a digital version of the customer’s receipt after they have made a purchase. In addition, the app can be used to view the current leaflets or to use the branch locator tool.

Earlier this year, Lidl Plus was launched in Germany. The virtual loyalty card is already in use in Austria, Spain, Denmark and Poland.
