Five years after Carrefour Belgium’s decision to include a ‘local products’ area in their hypermarkets and supermarkets, the retailer has decided to include such an area in its web shop as well.
750 local producers
Currently, Carrefour works with 750 local producers, who offer up to 11,000 products in the chain’s physical stores (depending on the season). Carrefour had already adapted its logistics, invoicing and payment services to this end, so it was only a small step to include the local producers in its web shop as well.
The main change now is an extra tab on Carrefour’s website, which shows the local products the store of their choice offers – all produced in a 40 kilometre radius around the selected store. Ordering online happens just like regular products and the products from local suppliers are added to the rest of the shopping cart and afterwards the customer can either collect their order in the store, or have it delivered at home.
The new option was showcased by Carrefour Arlon, which now sells a dozen local products. Just like the decision to give local producers some shelf space in offline stores, this decision was made public at the agricultural fair of Libramont.
