Samsung has posted excellent results for the last quarter of 2011, elevating its turnover to 31.6 billion euro and its profit to 3.5 billion euro. The company's results were fuelled by a record sales of smartphones in the October to December 2011 period, estimated to be 32 million (Samsung does not release exact sales figures).
Samsung only made its real début on the smartphone market in 2010, but has since then surpassed all its competitors. In the third quarter of last year, it became the world's leading smartphone producer for the very first time with an estimated 27.8 million items sold.
Surfing on the mobile mania, Samsung decided to build a new smartphone chip factory in China. A logical choice according to some analysts, who call China "the world's major electronics consumer".
