Coolblue turnover up 55 % (again)

Dutch web shop Coolblue has managed a 55 % turnover growth in the first half of 2014, which prompted founder Pieter Zwart to increase the full-year turnover forecast from 300 to 350 million euro.

Today French retailer Carrefour has opened its first Belgian stand-alone pick-up point in Waterloo, near the iconic Lion. RetailDetail was invited to check how such a stand-alone point works, and differs from one next to a supermarket.

Will Maxeda sell Brico and Plan-it?

Maxeda is considering selling off its shopping chains. The company that owns Praxis, Brico, Plan-it and Formido wants to appoint JP Morgan and Citi to consider "all of its strategic options".

Inditex profit growth lowest in years

Spanish fashion group Inditex has realized a 5% turnover increase last fiscal year, to 16.72 billion euro. Lower gross margins however meant net profit only rose 1 % to 2.38 billion euro, mostly because Zara was under tremendous pressure.

FAB.com opens Antwerp pop-up store

American online warehouse Fab.com will open a pop-up store in Antwerp, to get rid of excess supplies. The temporary store will be housed in a 'start-up incubator' just off of the main shopping street Meir.

British-Dutch Unilever will continue its rationalization as it seeks to reduce its product references by another 30 %. On top of that, more than 800 marketing jobs will be cut in an attempt to save an additional 500 million euro.
